Toshi Sushi Children Not welcome.

One of the things I love about living along Main Street is the great collection of stores, shops, restaurants and the diversity of the people and cultures. I have always been pleased at the way the businesses in the area have added positively to this environment - until recently. Toshi Sushi 181 East 16th Avenue, is a small popular neighbourhood sushi place that seems to have placed the squeezing of extra dollars above common respect. Om March 6th 2008 my wife and two children (6yrs and 4 yrs old) were waiting in Line to get a table as I headed over to meet them there from work. My wife asked for a table for 4 and after some wait (it was busy) was seated. She was ready to order, she was not waiting for me to arrive since she knows what I like, however the waitress refused to take the order. She asked my wife where the 4th person was and the waitress was informed that I was on my way and she would order for me. The response was

The sushi is watery and soggy. I have no idea why i waited in line for this!
Steer clear of this place, i suspectthe line up is because the locals just want to walk to some place no matter how bad it is.

Food is okay but the service is the worst I have had. I've been there over 3 times and each time, I get worse service. Don't waste your time in the line up. I would not recommend to anyone as there are better Japanese restaurants in Vancouver.

Amazing! The eggplant and the sushi with avocado is unbelievable! The traditional wait is worthwhile.

Toshi is an exceptional value and quality - thank goodness they opened! The
food is fresh, simple and on par with the best in our city -- it even rivals Togo's (but with a lot less gratuitous mayo usage, which I personally appreciate)..!

Make sure to arrive at the restaurant early enough to line up before
it opens (5pm) or be prepared to wait for a seat -sometimes upwards of 2hrs!- due to its VERY limited spacing (6 spots at the sushi bar approx 4x tables
for 2 4x tables for 4 which they'll refuse to seat you at if you are less
than a full 4, so you may be wise to pair up with another couple in line if
you're super hungry... )

You CAN order take-out, but it's been my repeated experience that they will
stop answering the phone at certain times during the dinner rush (6-7p), and will not take orders either via phone or from the outside in order to
accomodate those lined up and waiting to eat in...

So it's really best to arrive/order right a 5, or wait until after 8pm.

Toshi's is ALWAYS packed, with a line-up out the door, every day that it's
open, so obviously the food is well worth the wait!
